The samples should be sent as “samples for competition, no commercial value” All entry cases must clearly state: “THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL WINE & SPIRITS COMPETITION”

Number of samples

Α.Per registered wine (carriage paid) please send 5 commercially labeled bottles of 0,75L each. In case of lower capacity bottles please send (at least) 3,75L in total.

Β. Per registered spirit (carriage paid) please send 2 commercially labeled bottles of 0,5L each. In case of lower capacity bottles please send (at least) 1,00L in total.

(*) The organizers refuse all responsibility in case of late arrival of samples, total or partial loss during transport, physical, chemical and sensory alterations of samples due to temperature variations that may occur during transport. All charges of shipping, customs and taxes are in the responsibility of the participants who must settle the cost directly with the transport agents. Products not complying with this procedure will be disqualified from taking part in the competition without refund of the registration fee. Refused samples will not be returned to the sender.

(**) The samples must be received by the organizers of the Competition no later than Friday 7th May 2021. No sample (of wine, spirit, entry form) can be accepted after the deadline..

Wines

A)  The wines, according to their final rating given by judges, receive the following awards:

Gold Medal / Silver Medal / Bronze Medal

B) The best wines of each category (sparkling, white, rosé, red, sweet, retsina) are re- tasted by all judges and award the distinction of the best wine of each category.

C) The best wines of each category, are re- tasted by all judges and awarded as the best wine of the competition.

Spirits

A) Thespirits, according to their final rating given by judges, receive the following awards:

Gold Medal / Silver Medal / Bronze Medal

B) The highest grade spirit receives the distinction as the best spirit of the competition.

Since 1999, the “Thessaloniki International Wine & Spirits Competition” has been a widely acclaimed event successfully promoting great quality wines and spirits from Greece and around the world. The high level of the Competition is affirmed by the participation of internationally acclaimed wine specialists, Masters of Wine, oenologists, sommeliers and wine journalists who highlight wines and spirits that stand out claiming a medal, through intensive blind tastings. The new regulation adopted in 2018 was a crucial moment for the Competition, as the simple, enjoyable and reliable wine tasting and rating experience received very positive reviews from all involved people judges and producers, making the “Thessaloniki International Wine & Spirits Competition” one of the most modern and reliable competitions in the world.
The Competition is organized by the Wine Producers Association of Northern Greece Vineyard while representatives of all the boards of vitivinicultural sector (National Inter-professional Organization of Vine and Wine, Greek Wine Federation, Central Union of Vine and Wine Producing Cooperatives Organizations of Greece, Greek Federation of Spirits Producers, Pan-Hellenic Union of Registered Oenologists and all Greek Wine Producers Associations) participate as members of the Organizing Committee.
President of the Thessaloniki International Wine & Spirits Competition is Mr. Konstantinos Lazarakis MW.
The processes of the Competition, as the legality of the samples (labels etc ) are checked by the members of the Organizing Committee and representatives of national organizations (Ministry of Rural Development and Food, State General Laboratory) and entities (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki).

Documentation of awards (diplomas, medals, special awards, stickers)

Diplomas will be awarded to all the winning wines and spirits (Gold, Silver, Bronze Medal ). Moreover, producers have the possibility to order medal stickers for their awarded products. Special Awards and stickers receive the samples winning a distinction (the best wine of the competition, the best spirit of the competition, the best wine of each category (best white wine, best rosé wine, best red wine, best sweet wine, best sparkling wine, best retsina wine), the best wines for special indigenous varieties, the best organic wine). Diplomas and Medal stickers help the award-winning wine/spirit stand out and give consumers confidence when choosing which wine/spirit to buy.
